For Veterans.
For First Responders.
For the future.

At PTSD Dogs Australia, we train and place highly skilled assistance dogs with Veterans and First Responders living with PTSD.
But our work is not just about today. It is about what continues tomorrow… and long after.
This is why we have created two clear legacy pathways Bequest and Living Bequest Both are built on the same principle - impact that lasts, without pressure, urgency, or obligation
Most legacy giving focuses on money.
We focus on outcomes. A trained assistance dog changes the trajectory of a life. The systems behind that dog determine how many lives can be changed in the future. Legacy, done well, supports both.
Whether planned for later or activated now, legacy with PTSD Dogs Australia is about leaving something that continues to do its job quietly, respectfully, and effectively.
Every assistance dog partnership begins with two individuals who need a second chance.
A Veteran or First Responder living with the lasting effects of trauma, and a dog rescued from the shelter system that would otherwise have an uncertain future. Through careful assessment, training, and thoughtful placement, these two lives come together in a partnership that restores confidence, independence, and stability.
Legacy support ensures this work can continue. Not only for the people who need it today, but for the many Veterans, First Responders, and rescue dogs who will rely on these programs in the years to come.

Post-traumatic stress affects a significant number of those who have served their communities and their country.
Among Australian Defence Force personnel who have transitioned from service, around 25% have been diagnosed with PTSD, compared with around 4% of the broader Australian population. The consequences can be profound. Between 2001 and 2016, 373 Veterans and 197 First Responders died by suicide, with Veteran suicide rates significantly higher than the civilian population.
Assistance dogs provide a practical and proven form of support. Research shows they can significantly improve mental health outcomes, with nearly 90% of veterans reporting improvements in post-traumatic stress, anxiety, and depression after being matched with an assistance dog.
For many Veterans and First Responders, these partnerships restore stability, independence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

At PTSD Dogs Australia, we believe legacy decisions deserve care, clarity, and restraint.
Our approach is guided by principles that shape every decision we make.
Dignity Above All
We treat Veterans, First Responders, and Assistance Dogs with respect and privacy. We do not sensationalise trauma or seek attention at the expense of those we support.
Rescue With Purpose
We work with suitable rescue and shelter dogs, giving them a second chance through careful assessment, training, and placement. This approach changes lives at both ends of the leash.
Quality Over Quantity
We focus on long term outcomes rather than volume. Each placement is considered, supported, and designed to last.
Support Beyond Placement
Our responsibility continues after a dog is placed. Ongoing support for handlers is essential to sustainable success.
Built to Last
As an Australian not for profit based on the Sunshine Coast, we prioritise strong governance, responsible growth, and long term sustainability so this work continues well into the future.
Why This Matters
Legacy only works when intent is honoured and impact is sustained.
This philosophy ensures that every Bequest and Living Bequest is applied thoughtfully, ethically, and in line with the values behind it… now and into the future.
